The data type is a guideline for SQL to understand what type of data is expected inside of each column, and it also identifies how SQL will interact with the stored data. In MySQL there are three main data types: string, numeric, and date and time. A FIXED length string (can contain letters, numbers, and special characters). Numeric: for storing numbers, such as integers, decimals, and floats. Date and time: for storing dates and times, such as year, month, day, hour, minute, and second. String: for storing text, such as letters, numbers, and special characters. String data types can be fixed or variable length. Spatial: for storing geometric data, such as points, lines, polygons, and geometry collections. JSON: for storing JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) data, which is a format for exchanging structured data. Numeric Date and time String Spatial
